City of Kings and Spectacular colonial architecture
Lima, the capital of Peru, was once the wealthiest city in South America and is now home to 9 million people; the conquistador Francisco Pizarro gave it the name "City of Kings" when he founded the city. Lima is also one of the biggest financial centers in Latin America.
Lima was formerly a part of the Incan empire in the 15th century until the conquistadors overthrew them. It is located on the arid coastline of Peru and is a sprawling metropolitan metropolis in a valley formed by the Chillon, Rimac, and Lurin rivers. Lima faces the Pacific Ocean. This city is typical of many in Peru, where the modern and the ancient coexist in a muddled mix, and there are still remnants of pre-Columbian structures buried among colonial monuments and apartment complexes.
